Are you ready to become a letterpress artist? In this Letterpress Bootcamp workshop you will learn everything you need to know to use the presses in Zygote’s letterpress studio. Join Letterpress Teaching Artist Wendy Partridge for this two-day intensive bootcamp in which you will learn about the history of letterpress printing, get comfortable with setting both lead and wood type by hand, and get the chance to print using our Vandercook presses. This is the perfect class to take if you are a beginner who wants to gain the necessary skills to use Zygote’s letterpress studio and equipment independently. Over the course of 12 hours you will learn everything you need to know to create letterpress prints at Zygote Press.

RISO One Day Intensive
Learn to create digital files for risograph printing. We will discuss various methods of color separation and file prep using Photoshop, Color profiles, Spectrolite, and Layout Department. These methods can be used for text, hand drawn images, digital art, and photography. Students may bring their own laptops and image files. We will also go over best practices for registration, full bleed prints, and book printing. During the workshop students will create a two color file and practice printing a small edition on the Riso.
Printing For Pride: A family friendly guided studio
This PAY-WHAT-YOU-CAN AND OPEN TO THE COMMUNITY guided studio is for artists from any discipline, as well as anyone who wants to explore the world of printmaking (kids too!). Join us for a day of connection and creativity, and make colorful prints in honor of pride month. Participants will be guided through a variety of printmaking processes, using multiple workstations in Zygote’s studio, including screenprint, relief, Monoprint and more! Families with young children will be able to print in Zygote’s new kid-friendly community art room! Come by yourself or bring the whole family to explore printmaking methods, make new friends, and take home handmade prints to celebrate pride month.
All Levels Monoprinting

Block Printing Patterns on Picnic Blankets
In this one-day workshop, students will learn how to create a repeat pattern, carve their own pattern into a linoleum block, and learn how to register and hand print the blocks onto their very own picnic blanket. At the completion of the workshop, students will have created a unique, hand-printed picnic blanket to use all summer long.
Printing Cyanotypes: A family friendly Guided Studio
Did you know you can use the sun to make prints? This PAY-WHAT-YOU-CAN AND OPEN TO THE COMMUNITY guided studio is for artists from any discipline, as well as anyone who wants to explore the world of printmaking (kids too!). Join us for a day of outdoor printmaking. We will have pre-coated papers as well as stencils, fabric, textures, and even photo-negatives for you to choose from to make unique and beautiful prints. Participants will also have access to additional stations, such as make-your-own stamps, collaging, and wash-out techniques, where they can play with customizing their prints even further. Explore cyanotype printmaking methods, make new friends, and take home unique handmade prints!
Color Theory and Printmaking
Color theory is a very important skill for all artists to have, but especially for printmakers. Join Program Manager Chandler Mack and Teaching Artist Josie Krampitz for this 1 day workshop in which we will be exploring color theory as it applies to printmaking. Learn how to mix inks, layer transparent colors, and take your prints from good to great. This workshop will use pre-made designs that you can print using the custom colors you create. Students will walk away from this workshop with a new understanding of color theory and confidence they need to mix inks and create complex colors.
RISO Collage Guided Studio
Have you ever wanted to learn to print with Lizzo the RISO at Zygote? This PAY-WHAT-YOU-CAN AND OPEN TO THE COMMUNITY guided studio is for artists from any discipline, as well as anyone who wants to explore the world of RISO printing. At this guided studio, you will have the opportunity to create your own collage and then print it (in one color) on our very own Lizzo the RISO. Spend the day at Zygote Press, making prints and maybe making some new friends along the way!

TONIC Opening Reception
TONIC is an exhibition of installation and printmaking by the 2025 PROOF Fellowship cohort. The exhibition brings together a range of material investigations and processes developed over the course of the fellowship, foregrounding print as both method and structure within expanded spatial practices.
Join us for the opening reception on Friday, May 15, from 5:30 PM – 8:30 PM. The event marks the cohort’s public debut and invites visitors to move through the space in direct engagement with the installations and printed forms.

Proof of Concept: An Evening with the 2026 PROOF Fellowship artists
This event will offer visitors a rare first look inside Zygote’s working studio, where Fellows will present project excerpts they created during the PROOF Fellowship. Test prints, plates, blocks, paper and other materials will remain on view, emphasizing the processes behind the work as it evolves. Organized as an open to the community event, the evening invites the public to move through the space, observe works in progress and engage with the materials and methods shaping the artists’ practices.
The opening reception for TONIC will follow on May 15, 2026 at 5:30PM.
The PROOF Fellowship supports Northeast Ohio artists by providing studio access and training in multiple printmaking techniques. Participants develop individual projects while working collectively within the Zygote Press studio.

The result is a textured line that emulates the look of an engraving that doesn’t rely on the technical skill the process usually requires. Zygote teaching artist Emma Gatzulis will teach you everything you need to know about plate preparation, drypoint techniques, and printing your very own intaglio prints. At the conclusion of the workshop, students will have a finished small edition of drypoint prints.

In this one-day workshop, students will work with Zygote teaching artist, Wendy Partridge to create a beautiful and surprising series of prints using textures, stencils, reference images, and a variety of implements. The beauty of gelatin plate printing is its speed and spontaneity, simple set up (no press required), and easy clean-up with water-based printing inks. By the end of the session, you will have learned the process and will be ready to continue experimenting on your own. This workshop is suitable for beginners as an introduction to printing, and advanced printmakers as a quick way to generate images and add layers.

Workshop Description: Learn one of the oldest known printmaking techniques in this one day workshop. During this workshop students will design, carve, and print their very own one color woodblock print. Your Zygote instructor will go over the need-to-know basics of using and sharpening wood carving tools, rolling out relief ink using a brayer, inking up your woodblock, and proper printing techniques. When you complete the workshop, you will be able to print both by hand and on a press.

Workshop Description: This is the perfect class to take if you have already taken our screen basics course and want to spend a day diving a little deeper into the possibilities of screenprint. During this one-day workshop, you will explore the principles of printing multiple layers, including different types of registration and layering colors with varying opacities. Your instructor, Paul Serrianne will also provide a demonstration of the screen monoprint process (one of Paul’s specialties!) After this course, each student will have a multi-layer screenprint to bring home, and will develop a new, deeper understanding of the screenprint process.
