Blank Canvas: Screenprint Monotyping on Paper with Michelle Eisen

Saturday and Sunday, February 1 & 2, 11-3pm

Participants will explore how screenprint monotyping techniques can be combined and applied to produce one-of-a-kind prints that go beyond the traditional aesthetic of the medium! Participants will explore silkscreen monotyping processes and methodologies, including stencil printing, watercolor monotyping, and non-conventional approaches using drawing media. Prior experience with screenprinting is not expected and participants will receive full process instruction.

Letterpress Broadsides for Advocacy with Erin Adair and Andy Passchier

Visual art can be a moving and impactful part of actions and protests for movements for liberation across the globe. This workshop will introduce you to the letterpress, and together we’ll use wood type to print designs on broadsides you can share with your community or organizations you’re a part of. This workshop combines an intro to letterpress with a skillshare on visual strategy in political and community organizing, and provides studio time and instruction for designing a letterpress broadside with wood type. No experience required!

 
 

Matting and Hinging Works on Paper with Jamye Jamison

Paper is inherently fragile. Proper matting and framing can help protect works on paper from being damaged while on display. This workshop will teach those who would like to frame their own artwork how to do so safely using the most appropriate materials and methods for different types of objects. We will cover various types of hinging methods, options for adhesives, and why archival mat boards really do matter. Join Jamye Jamison, Paper Conservator, for a session of tips and tricks of the trade and leave with a set of samples that will help you make better decisions for how to mat and frame your works on paper.

 
 

Screenprinting A to Z: 6-Week Course with Anna Tararova

For the first time Zygote is offering a 6-week deep dive evening course! Teaching artist, Anna Tararova will take you through everything you need to know about screenprinting. Starting with the basics you will learn a solid foundation of skills that will help guide you in the coming weeks. You will learn about printing multiple layers, paper and fabric applications, and digital components that can go hand in hand with screenprinting. By the end of this 6-week course students will be able to create at least one screenprinting project from conception to completion. No previous experience necessary.

 
 

Recycled Tetra-Pak Printmaking with Lisa Schonberg

Sunday, March 30th, 1-4pm

Come explore the art of “Tetra Pak” printing. Using the inside surface of soup/beverage boxed containers as printing plates, the sky’s the limit as to what you can create to print from. By manipulating the silver-like surface we will draw, scratch, collage with stickers and tape, sand and even cut the plates easily into desired shapes. Each participant will create at least one plate and have time to print it several times using intaglio printing techniques and the etching presses. No experience necessary just the desire to do something new and fun!

 
 

Letterpress Bootcamp with Wendy Partridge

Do you admire letterpress printing? Have you always wanted to try it? Then this workshop is for you! You will learn the basics of setting lead and wood type by hand, and you will master the mechanics of printing on Zygote’s incredible, flexible Vandercook presses. By the end of the workshop, you will be approved to work on your own in Zygote’s letterpress studio! Come prepared with a short text.

She will walk you through the basics – and get you comfortable in Zygote’s screenprinting studio. Enrollment

If you are interested in a class, don’t wait to sign up! If we do not have enough enrollments, the class will be cancelled and any paid registrations will be refunded. Class enrollment is open to the public, ages 13 and up (unless otherwise specified).
