Protest Printmaking: Block-Printing Propaganda

Sunday, June 2 and Wednesday, June 5th 5:30-9:30

Pay-What-You-Can: $10 / $25 / $50 / $100 / $200

Limited to 8 - only 5 spots left!

If you’ve always wanted to try block-printing and are interested in social justice and advocacy, this two-day workshop is perfect for you! Your instructor, tahm lytle (they/them) will start with a brief historical overview of printmaking as activism including an introduction to influential political artists and movement art - then they will explain what makes impactful propaganda, and show examples of common elements and motifs in political art. Participants will design prints up to 8x10" that communicate their beliefs in striking, persuasive ways. Beginner friendly! Your instructor will go over the basics of design for linocut block printing, how to transfer an image, carving and inking techniques, proofing and troubleshooting, and how to hand-print on paper and fabric. They will also touch on different multi-color block printing techniques. Participants will walk away with a completed block and multiple prints and/or patches! All are welcome!

This is our first Pay-What-You-Can Workshop - this new payment model is to give artists with income limitations more equitable access to our shop.
