RISO 101 with Anna Tararova

Learn the basics of Risography on “Lizzo the Rizo”, Zygote’s RZ Risograph machine. Participants will make collages to print with - you can bring your own collage material such as magazines, drawings, and photos. If you need to print something out, be sure to arrive 15 minutes early to use our printer. Each artist will make a two color print using our RZ 390ui Riso Duplicator. You will also learn basic Riso mechanics and skills so you can work independently with Lizzo during Open Studio. No experience required!
Letterpress Bootcamp with Wendy Partridge

Do you admire letterpress printing? Have you always wanted to try it? Then this workshop is for you! You will learn the basics of setting lead and wood type by hand, and you will master the mechanics of printing on Zygote’s incredible, flexible Vandercook presses. This is a true intensive - two full days of letterpress training! By the end of the workshop, you will be approved to work on your own in Zygote’s letterpress studio. Come prepared with a short text.
Monoprinting with Leaves Family Workshop

Join us for our very first Pay-What-You-Can Family Workshop this Fall! Get an overview of the world of monoprinting with this family-friendly hands-on program. Learn to make your own monoprints using leaves from your neighborhood with Zygote Teaching Artists Sequoia Bostick and Brittany M. Hudak. You will also learn to identify common Ohio tree leaves and leaf terms! For this class participants will make their own Fall cards and envelopes using leaves to take home – and they will also get to make their own monoprint on a table-top etching press!

Do you love zines? Always wanted to learn about RISO? Join award-winning illustrators Sequoia Bostick (she/her) and Andy Passchier (they/them) for our Pay-What-You-Can Zine + RISO Open Studio! Participants will spend the afternoon concepting, hand drawing, RISO-ing and constructing their own zines from start to finish. Participants are encouraged and welcomed to bring their own ideas to the workshops but it is not necessary, prompts will be available and provided to those who need them. No experience required!

Exploring Letterpress: Holiday Cards with Erin Adair

Curious about letterpress? Enjoy a creative adventure in printmaking using our wonderful vintage Vandercook letterpresses - no experience necessary! Using our collection of vintage cuts, Zygote Teaching Artist Erin Adair will have two different holiday designs set up for you to print. You’ll get to learn about letterpress, how to operate the presses and produce a lovely set of Holiday greeting cards to take home (envelopes included).
Intermediate RISO with Anna Tararova

If you’ve already taken RISO 101, and want to expand your knowledge - this is the course for you! On the first night, Anna Tararova will teach you advanced file set up, using both Photoshop and Spectrolite. Then participants will have a week to work on their files at home. At the second workshop, participants will make their prints using “Lizzo the Rizo”, Zygote’s RZ 390ui Risograph machine - there will also be plenty of studio time to work on future prints! After completing this workshop, you are certified to work solo at Zygote on the RISO during open studio.
Intermediate Screenprinting with Paul Serrianne

If you’ve already taken Screenprinting Basics then you’re ready to take Intermediate Screenprinting to be certified to work solo in the shop. This Screenprinting Certification Program was developed to help new members learn how to use the shop independently and correctly use all the equipment. In this two-day course, students will learn some basic file set-up, how to coat screens, burn their design, and make their prints.

If you are interested in a class, don’t wait to sign up! If we do not have enough enrollments, the class will be cancelled and any paid registrations will be refunded. Class enrollment is open to the public, ages 13 and up (unless otherwise specified).

Tuition and fees are due in full upon registration - you can call, mail or sign-up online. We accept cash, checks, or credit card.
