Utilizing linoleum plates, students will learn how to transfer an image onto the plate, explore carving methods particular to embossed printing, review paper selection, soaking and handling of papers, and proofing of the print. By the end of the workshop, students will have an understanding of the process of embossed printmaking (also known as blind intaglio) and will have proofed and printed the plate created during the workshop. Workshop includes a brief discussion of the history of embossed printmaking with an overview of historical and contemporary examples of this medium. Students are encouraged to bring sketches or images for inspiration, and to transfer onto the plates for printing.
